Section 0. Background Information

1. BitDefender Rescue CD 
   • BitDefender Rescue CD is freely provided by BitDefender.  BitDefender provides a full suite of security tools.  Using the BitDefender Rescue CD, you have the ability to do the following: (1) boot a windows operating system into a Xubuntu environment, (2) mount up the windows filesystem for access, and (3) scan the mounted windows file system for viruses.
2. Lab Notes
   • In this lab we will do the following:
     1. Download the BitDefender iso
     2. Boot Windows 7 VM into the BitDefender Rescue Environment
     3. Using BitDefender Rescue CD
     4. Update BitDefender
     5. Run BitDefender Antivirus Scan
3. Prerequisites
   • Instructions:
     1. Windows 7: Lesson 1: Installing Windows 7
    
   

Section 1. Download BitDefender

1. Open A Firefox Browser
   • Notes: 
     • Login to the machine that has VM Player Installed.
   • Instructions: 
     1. Click on the Windows Start Button
     2. Type firefox in the search box
     3. Click on Mozilla Firefox
   • 
2. Open A Firefox Browser
   • Instructions: 
     1. Place the following address in the Firefox Browser
        • http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/2013/bitdefender-rescue-cd.iso
     2. Click OK to download
   • 
3. Navigate and Save
   • Instructions: 
     1. Navigate to your external USB hard drive.
     2. Create a directory call Anti-Virus Live CD on your
     3. Click Save
   • 

Section 2. Start your Windows 7 VM

1. Edit Virtual Machine Settings
   • Instructions: 
     1. Click on Windows 7
     2. Click on Edit virtual machine
   • 
2. Configure CD/DVD (IDE)
   • Instructions
     1. Configure CD/DVD (IDE)
     2. Click the radio button "Use ISO image file:"
     3. Click the Browse button and Navigate to the location of the bitdefender-rescue-cd.iso
     4. Click the Okay button
   • 
3. Start Windows 7
   • Instructions: 
     1. Click on Windows 7
     2. Click on Play virtual machine
   • 
4. Access the Boot Menu
   • Instructions
     1. Once you see the below vmware screen, (1) Left Click in the screen and (2) press the <Esc> key.
   • 
5. Boot from CD-ROM Drive
   • Instructions
     1. Arrow Down to where CD-ROM Drive is highlighted
     2. Press <Enter>
   • 

Section 3. Using Bitdefender Rescue CD

1. BitDefender Rescue Menu
   • Instructions
     1. Select Language of Choice, English is default.
   • 
2. BitDefender Rescue Mode - Welcome
   • Instructions
     1. Do not click Continue.
     2. Click the X to close the BitDefender Application for now.
   • 
3. Open BitDefender Display Settings
   • Instructions
     1. Select the X from the GUI Panel
     2. Settings --> Display
   • 
4. Select Display
   • Instructions
     1. Select 1024 x 768
   • 
5. Set Display
   • Instructions
     1. Click Apply
     2. Click Close
   • 
6. Start Bitdefender Scanner
   • Instructions
     1. Click the X on the GUI
     2. System --> Bitdenfender Scanner
   • 
7. Bitdenfender Rescue Mode - Welcome
   • Instructions
     1. Click Continue
   • 
8. Bitdenfender Update
   • Notes (FYI):
     1. Bitdefender will now download the latest updates for their scanner.
     2. This will take around 15 minutes.
   • 
9. Scan Now
   • Instructions
     1. Click Scan Now
   • 
10. Start Scan
    • Instructions
      1. Click on LocalDisk-0
      2. Click Open
    • 
11. Bitdenfender Antivirus Scanner
    • Notes (FYI):
      1. Bitdefender will show a loading screen before the scan begins.
    • Instructions
      1. Click Scan
    • 
12. Viewing Results
    • Notes (FYI):
      1. The white status pain will list any found viruses.
      2. In my case, Bitdefender identicates that it could not run a scan on an AVG2013 dat file.  (No Big Deal)
    • Instructions
      1. Click on the Log viewer
      2. Continue to Proof of Lab Section (Do not close Log viewer)

Section 4. Proof of Lab

1. Open a Terminal
   • Notes (FYI):
     1. The white status pain will list any found viruses.
     2. In my case, Bitdefender identicates that it could not run a scan on an AVG2013 dat file.  (No Big Deal)
   • Instructions
     1. Click on the X on the GUI
     2. Click on Terminal
   • 
2. Proof of Lab Instructions
   • Instructions:
     1. date
     2. Press <Enter>
     3. echo "Your Name"
        • Replace the string "Your Name" with your actual name.
        • e.g., echo "John Gray"
     4. Do a PrtScn
     5. Paste into a word document
     6. Upload to website www.antoanthongtin.edu.vn
   • 
3. Edit Virtual Machine Settings
   • Instructions: 
     1. From the VM Player Menu Bar do the following:
     2. Select Virtual Machine
     3. Select Virtual Machine Settings...
   • 
4. Edit CD/DVD (IDE)
   • Instructions: 
     1. Select CD/DVD (IDE)
     2. Select the Connection radio button: Use physical drive, with Auto detect selected.
     3. Click the OK Button
   • 
5. Windows 7 - VMware Player CD-ROW Disconnect Message
   • Instructions: 
     1. Select Yes
   • 
6. Shutdown Machine
   • Instructions: 
     1. Click the small Shutdown icon on the bottom GUI bar (See Below)
     2. Click the big Shutdown icon.
